I don’t know much about the BDSM life style, but i do know more than a few people who are into it. Each and every one of them have said the same thing about this book: “This is not proper representation of the lifestyle”. I can’t tell you if that is true or not, but it is something i feel you have the right to know going in.
What i do know, however, is bad writing. “There’s not much to know about me. I mean, look at me.” If i didn’t know that the book was written by a woman, if i didn’t know that the screen play was written by a woman, if i didn’t know that this was being directed by a woman, i’d call that the single most sexist line i’ve ever heard.
Once that line was said i wanted to punch everyone who ever thought that any of this was a good idea. Let me explain why: The man say’s “i’d like to know more about you” he want to know her as a human being, and she essentially says “by simply looking at me you know everything. everything, about my existence because how i look is all that matters”, then uses that to jump into what most people in the BDSM community call an outright abusive relationship.
Fuck. This. Movie. If you are old enough to be interested in the topic of BDSM, do everyone a favor: don’t go see this, let this movie tank and go watch porn.
