On some level i understand why a lot of people dislike the two “Hobbit” movies so far. So far there has been about Six hours of movie and we are only 2/3 of the way through what is a pretty simple story. I understand how people can be up set that relatively simple events in the book are blown up to Imax price justifying set peaces. And yes, the CG doesn’t look as good as the practical effects in “the Lord of the Rings” and it is almost always easy to spot in CG heavy scenes.
I understand all of that. But here is my rebuttal: these are fun. Yeah, that’s it. The amount of fun i had watching these movies out weights every issue i’ve had with them. Yes, “The Lord of the Rings” are better movies, but these are simply more fun. I think a lot of the issues come down to tone. Once you understand and accept that “the hobbit” is and always was a more light heated story than “the lord of the rings” then it becomes easier to accept the movie for what it is: a hell of a good time.
So yeah, i’m excited and can’t wait.
