A Most Viloent Year Trailer and Impressions

My Thoughts:
I liked this trailer a lot. I thought the writing was very good and the acting complemented it perfectly. But then i saw that the film in coming out December 31 this year. That could mean one of two things. The first is that the creative team is really trying to get an Oscar. you see, the only real qualifier to be eligible for an Oscar is that your movie has to play n a few certain theaters before the end of the year. This has lead Oscar seekers to release their movies latter in the so that their movie wont be forgotten about. It’s dumb, but it is what it is. The second possibility: the movie sucks. Movies released in January tend to suck because the higher ups responsible for what movies get released know most family wont have the extra income to see movies this shortly after Christmas so they release the movies they think no one will really want to see. So, is this trying to be the last Oscar contender of 2014 or the first piece of shit of 2015? I don’t know. If this trailer is even 1/2 as good as the movie proper than i think it’s safe to say that the movie will be pretty good. But trailers have lied before, so i’m going to have to give this one a wait and see also.

Paradise Lost Trailer and Impressions

My Thoughts:
Aw, yes. Who could forget the story of the lone white man who killed Pablo Escobar and single handedly brought an end to the Colombian drug trade? Aren’t we white people awesome. I am hoping there is some history i’m missing here, because of not then this is just another “praise the white man” film and those need to just…die in a fire. If you happen to have some info that may change my perspective, please feel free to give it to be, but as for now i just can’t take this to seriously.
On a film level the acting seems decent across the board and i do buy Josh Hutcherson as the normal guy in over his head from the mid point on. But that’s not going to stop me from skipping this.

The Calling UK Trailer and Impressions

My Thoughts:
Once the trailer showed the bit with the Boiling Baptism it had me wanting to see it. Then i looked it up on IMDb and i’m a little worried now. This is the first big directorial job for Jason Stone and screenwriter Scott Abramovitch has only written a few t.v. movies before this. Unfortunately again is the fact that the only other big credit for Mr. Stone is as executive producer for “This is The End” a movie i never cared to see. “The Calling” still looks good from this trailer, but i am going to lower my expectations.

White Bird in a Blizzard Trailer and Impressions

My Thoughts:
Insane parents make for good movies. Just look at “Carrie” or “Mommy Dearest”. People disappearing make good movies. Just looks a “Taken” or “Prisoners”. So why does this movie look so boring? Could this just be a bad trailer? I don’t know. But i do know that i sat and watched the entire thing stone faced waiting for something to care about. Hopefully when the time the next trailer comes out the movie will look better, but for right now i couldn’t care less about this movie.

Nightcrawler Trailer #2 and Impressions

My Thoughts:
This is what they should have lead with. The first trailer was so underwhelming and gave so little away that it ultimately felt pointless. This trailer was much better. This made me want to see the movie where as the last trailer just made me want to know what was going on.
As for the trailer itself, it seems to be doing everything it can to get my attention. The protagonist is looking for a job and is finding it somewhat difficult. I know what that’s like. He then looks to Journalism. I can understand that. Then he abandons all ethics in order to achieve his goals. Well…i haven’t got to that point yet, but the movie sure as hell looks good. So yeah, i’ll be keeping an eye out for this one. How do you feel about the movie? Leave a comment below and let me know.

Before I Go To Sleep Trailer and Impressions

My Thoughts:
This trailer is a little old, but i couldn’t find the one that was released today on youtube, so my apology’s for that. With that out of the way…Go watch Memento. It’s on Netflix, it’s awesome and it has actors that aren’t phoning it in. I’m okay using with a movie using the same idea as another movie, but this really does just look like a much worse version of Memento. And i can’t stress this enough: go. watch. Memento. “Before i go to sleep?” I’m pretty sure you wont loss anything if you skip this one.

Maps to the Stars Trailer and Impressions

My Thoughts:
I’ve watched this trailer three times now, back to back. I enjoyed it all three times and i’m definitely interested in the film, but after three viewings i still can’t tell you why. About half way through the trailer the tone changes, going from comedy to thriller. Something about that intrigued me, but again, i really can’t tell you why. I’m not quite ready to say that i want to see the movie, but i definitely want to see more of it.

Nightcrawler Trailer and Impressions

My Thoughts:

You know what i didn’t know after watching this trailer? That the movie is about freelance crime journalism. That’s right, a major part of the plot goes completely under the radar. I understand the need to not give everything away in the trailer, but what is the point of a trailer where we no nothing about the movie? I really don’t know what more to say about it other than that.

Whiplash Trailer and Impression

My Thoughts:

You know what this reminded me of? 2010’s “Black Swan”. And anything that can remind me of that masterpiece is doing something right. I really like the whole, going insane by doing the things i love angle that both these movies are playing on. Even though i’m not doing something as intense as jazz drumming or ballet, just pushing myself to be a better game critic can be stressful. So for me i know that there is a pretty clear emotional connections to this material, and i think for most people there is as well. And i like that these movies are showing what can happen when you push things over your limit.
